Zolder Race Report 2024

Last weekend the T Sport Bernau team continued their tour of Europe, attending the third round of the 2024 Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship in Zolder, Belgium.

The team once again constructed the hospitality area in preparation to welcome more guests of our team partners Varta, Teng Tools and PE to witness the racing action from within our VIP area.

The weekend followed the usual format with Antonio once again progressing to the final stage of qualifying to fight for pole position. Antonio put in a fantastic lap and was able to secure 2nd place on the grid for the first race of the weekend. It was great to see Antonio lining up on the front row of the grid which gave our fans and guests a real sense of excitement as the start of the race drew nearer.

Antonio made a great getaway at the start and was able to defend his position through the first few corners before settling into a nice rhythm, setting some consistent lap times throughout. After a solid race Antonio crossed the line in 2nd place, stepping up to the podium to collect more silverware and a fantastic haul of championship points for his efforts. The second race came around and due to the reverse grid format Antonio found himself lining up in 7th position on the grid. The lights went out and a thrilling race ensued. With many overtaking manoeuvres taking place throughout the field alongside a few crashes along the way, Antonio was pleased to bring the truck home unscathed and cross the line still in 7th place, collecting more valuable championship points.

Sunday came around and once again the clocks were reset as we went into the qualifying. Antonio’s record of making it into the final round of qualifying at every session this season still stands as he once again easily progressed to the pole position shootout. After an extremely close qualifying, Antonio secured 4th position – on the second row of the grid. As the race began, Antonio once again got a great start and was able to defend his position throughout the rest of the race whilst also trying to make progress into a podium position. After some great racing Antonio finished in 4th position, narrowly missing out on another podium but collecting some great championship points for his efforts. The final race of the weekend and Antonio took to the grid in 5th position. In a thrilling race Antonio was pushing hard to try and gain places. As two of his competitors were fighting for the positions ahead, Antonio was able to spot an opportunity and made a move between them both to make up 2 places in one manoeuvre. Norbert Kiss was now pushing hard from behind, keen to regain the place he lost. After a great battle, Antonio had to concede the place before passing the chequered flag, ultimately finishing in 4th position – again just short of a podium finish.

Overall, the team are pleased with the weekends results and with Antonio consistently setting good lap times and bringing home a lot of championship points. Antonio is now sitting in 3rd position on the overall championship standings. We will now load up and head back to Garage Lunau where we will service the race truck before heading to Nürburgring in Germany for the next round of the championship in only 3 weeks’ time on 13th and 14th of July.
