Over the past 4 months, a new British truck racing team has been founded and established: Terry Gibbon fulfilled his dream of returning to the British Truck Racing Championship with his own race team – namely T Sport Racing.
Together with the Unit 8 Motorsport Systems crew, he built a completely new class A race truck. At first, the idea was to build an American truck. After signing a partnership agreement with PE Automotive, one of the leading producers on the independent aftermarket (IAM) for commercial-vehicle parts, this plan was soon revoked as it became clear that a European truck would fit their concept much better. Without further ado, the plan was changed and the work on the MAN TGS 18.480 race truck started.
In December, the cab was stripped and a roll cage was fitted. The chassis rails were equipped with a subframe and cross members were installed. After New Year, all of the components were sent out to the paint shop and the time to construct and assemble the new race truck in every detail began. At this stage, we managed to win several partners willing to supply us with their products. The biggest bulk came from PE Automotive offering a wide range of products – including high quality brake discs, wheel nuts, air and water tanks. For weeks, the team worked day and night to get the truck ready. Not only the wiring loom, but also numerous mounting brackets and other components had to be custom-built in-house as they can’t be bought off the shelf.
We are proud to announce that our new race truck is now ready for the 2017 BTRC opening round at Brands Hatch 25th/26th of March! We would like to thank all our partners for supporting us and thank everybody who helped us building the race truck! We are looking forward to a great racing season!
